This is one of our neighbors in our small farming valley. Luke, who is only 21, has been working hard to continue the only remaining family dairy farm in the valley - one his grandfather started. He's a dealer-employed farm equipment mechanic by day, and he runs the farm in his off time. The kid works hard, and has hidden his pain from everyone until recently.
I wanted to do something more than just donate money, so I spent the last couple of weeks making a hunting knife for the raffle. I'n not professional, and the knife is not perfect, but it's tough and will be sharp as heck. I forged it from a thick chunk of leaf spring from an old 1 ton dump truck (5160 spring steel), ground it, blued it, and pinned and expoxied desert ironwood handles on it. I bought a leather sheath kit, and formed it to the knife. This is my 5th knife, and all of my previous knifes made for friends and relatives have been great.

One buddy sent me this. He calls it his "He Man" knife. Same steel, black walnut handle.
